Wow. I think the Abilene Chamber of Commerce's "Experience the Suck of the Dustbowl" campaign has really gotten out of hand.

Whatever happened to Poppyseed Man?

whoa. i hope you weren't wearing contact lenses.
it really is a beautiful photo, though the reality of it is one of the most unappealing i can think of when considering getting out and going to the store. i talked with a great uncle a few months ago about growing up during the depression in the dust bowl, and he said that his folks built a frame around his bed and had it draped in sheets, forming a canopy/tent. every couple of weeks, he'd wake up and the whole thing would be completely black with dust on the outside. he told a number of stories like that--it's incredible to think what dust can do.
in your case, i'm glad it meant a good photo op.
happy march!

I think this is a smart idea.
Here in the UK steroids are legal to posses but illegal to sell.
I think they should be completly legal and on the shelves with tobacco and alcohol.
However I believe a license should be obtained to purchase by attending a single day course teaching the dangers of steroid use.
I believe it is not a good idea to sell it to pros only as amatures unaware of steroid dangers will continue to buy it off the black market.
Please reply.

Well apparently it works worse, since it has not recorded anything I've listened to in the last ten days....

In theory, what makes it interesting to me is that I can use my regular music-playing app instead of having to use their specific program, or keep their web page open, or soemthing like that. And extra points because I use Linux, and Last.fm doesn't mind.

In practice, I don't know why it works some days and not others.

Jay, my commenters love typing numbers. That's why they're here! I hear it constantly in private email. I do use Akismet, which flagged your comment as spam due to your highly excessive link count.

If we all stopped using captchas, then how would we know when the machines evolve to become smarter than us? If the movies of the 50's taught us anything, it's that constant vigilance is our only defense as a species. Well, that and fire.

Also I did start putting pics up on the Flickr -- just a few so far. I recommend trying Lightroom while it's still free; they may give you a discount when they jerk it away and start charging $900 for it. Just profile your monitor first.

Well, it's both. The castle is a compound of a bunch of buildings -- cathedral, royal residence, all kinds of little blocks that are now used as shops. I guess the thing as a whole is fortified, with one ring of buildings forming the outer wall ... so it meets the technical definition of castle. But it sure does look different.

I've been wanting to try Adobe Lightroom myself... I'd be interested in hearing what you think of it.

Also Nate, just a humble suggestion: Get rid of that cursed image captcha anti-spam method, and go with something like Akismet or Spam Karma. I've used both, and like Akismet better. Your commenters won't have to type in hard to read numbers, and you won't get spam.

go crazy if the inspiration hits, i say. the light in the photo inside the castle (it's the castle, right? or the cathedral? or mere church? anyway...) is gorgeous, so i'm looking forward to more. no pressure or anything, of course. just hurry a little. and cheers, as always.

Well, our boy Wolfgang also has a big round anniversary working in his favor this summer. Gustav and pals will probably have their day, too (there were plently of Klimt posters in the U-Bahn), if the wigmakers and fans are patient enough.

Freud, on the other hand, certainly has what I think we'd agree on as a distinct, iconic "look" but has not yet managed to parlay that into costumed imitators. I chalk that up to fear of success.

how delightfully surreal. i bet klimt and wittgenstein are kicking themselves in the afterworld for not having developed a more recognizable style of dress (or coif, for that matter). or maybe they're not. party on with the wurst.

latinamerican idol will soon be airing here in mexico, and that's in addition to the other singing reality show called "la academia" (or something like that) that's be roping in followers for the past few years. i think more people here vote for the winners of "bailando por un sueno" and now "cantando por un sueno" (dancing and singing for a dream, respectively, where the winner gets cash and a trip and the honor of being partnered with a famous person and, oh yeah, money to help realize their dream of paying for a brother's prosthetic leg or dad's new mechanic shop) than they will the new president in july. at least there's an element of altruism there. still, i wonder about the future. :)
